Petronas registered a revenue of RM74.4 billion

Kuala Lumpur: Petronas Group successfully posted a total revenue of RM74.4 billion for the second quarter ended June 30, 2013 compared to RM70.8 billion recorded in the same period in 2012.

President and Chief Executive Officer, Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas said, however, profit fell slightly to RM15.3 billion compared with RM15.4 billion for the same period last year.

He said the increase in revenue for the quarter was driven by higher crude oil prices, gas and petroleum products sales and trading opportunities and strong customer demand.

"Total revenues for the first half of this year increased by four per cent to RM151.1 billion from RM146 billion last year. In fact, we aim at profit before tax (PBT) for the year of RM91 billion, which is about the same as before.

"We believe that the second half of this year will show an improvement in financial performance due to new discoveries, technological developments and operational experience," he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Also present were Executive Vice President of Petronas, Datuk George Ratilal.

Shamsul said the total assets also increased to RM514.4 billion for the June 30, 2013 compared with RM489.2 billion recorded at December 31, 2012, while shareholders' equity rose by RM5.3 billion to RM312.3 billion.
